Official Rules
Read this before entering the LSNA Flag Design Contest. Questions? Contact the LSNA Board.
This is a skill-based contest with no entry fee. No purchase or payment of any kind is required or accepted to enter.
1. Eligibility
Open to entrants 18 years of age or older.
2. Entry Period
Entries open Saturday, August 8, 2026 and close Friday, September 18, 2026. The winner will be announced [announcement date TBA].
The winning design becomes the neighborhood flag flown at next year's Tomato Art Fest, not the 2026 festival.
3. How to Enter
Enter via the form on the Tomato Art Fest event page, or by scanning the QR code on the competition poster. Upload your design (JPG, PNG, PDF, or similar common file format) with your entry. One entry per person.
4. Original Work
Your entry must be your own original design. By entering, you confirm you created the design yourself and have the right to submit it.
5. Judging
All entries are judged on skill alone, using the rubric below. Entries are assessed by a selected panel of community volunteers. The panel's decision is final.
The theme is the essence of Tomato Art Fest. Judges score how well your design captures it.
Judging Rubric (100 points)
Each of the four criteria is scored out of 25. Within each, 21-25 is high, 11-20 is medium, 0-10 is low.
- Creativity and Originality - 25 points. A unique approach that breaks away from common cliches.
- Technical Execution and Skill - 25 points. Composition, colour harmony, typography, and line work.
- Interpretation of Theme - 25 points. How clearly and powerfully the design communicates the theme.
- Visual Impact and Overall Impression - 25 points. Whether the design commands attention and stays memorable.
Ties are broken by further skill-based judging, never by random draw.
6. The Prize
$500 in gift cards from local East Nashville businesses, including a $250 Jerry's Art-O-Rama voucher. The winning design becomes the official Lockeland Springs Neighborhood Association flag for next year's Tomato Art Fest.
7. Rights to the Winning Design
By entering, you grant LSNA a non-exclusive, ongoing right to reproduce and display your design as the neighborhood's official flag and in related LSNA promotional materials. You keep credit as the designer and retain your own rights to your work.
8. Publicity
If you win, LSNA may ask to use your name and a photo of you with your design for announcements and future promotion. We'll ask you directly and in writing before doing so, for a specific, time-limited use.
9. Taxes
If applicable, the winner is responsible for any federal, state, or local taxes on the prize. If the prize is valued over $600, LSNA will issue an IRS Form 1099-MISC.
10. General
LSNA reserves the right to disqualify any entry that doesn't meet these rules, and to cancel or modify the contest if needed. Questions? Contact the LSNA Board.
