Looking for the coolest spot in East Nashville? Come join us on Saturday, April 14 in Lockeland Springs. Our new natural area, Lockeland Springs Park, features a deep, shady, spring filled valley full of birds and many kinds of wildlife. It also contains ancient stone channels and walls, the ruins of an old spring house, bridge foundations, and channels. You won’t believe this could be right in the middle of the city!

What’s up? As part of the Lockeland Springs Neighborhood Associations’ Spring Cleanup, teams will be going out to put the sparkle back in the neighborhood. We’ll be clearing out trash and invasive exotic plants, cleaning up streambeds, and opening the right of way for a future trail. Along with street and alley work, we’re preparing this spring filled natural area for our children’s use, for our meditation, and a quiet retreat for all.

To be part of the Springs Spring Cleanup, come at 9 am to the Lockeland Design Center, corner of 17th and Woodland. We want to make the Springs sparkle, and with your help it certainly can. You’ll have a great time, and we’ll all be the better for it.

Be sure to wear boots,gloves and tough clothes, especially if you want to wade in the water down by the springs… Along with the beauty we’re uncovering, there are also some things to watch out for, like slippery rocks, some thorns and poison ivy, as well as some broken glass around the old water bottling platforms. When we’re through, much of this will be cleared out…We’re going to give “Spring Cleaning” a whole new meaning.

The first 30 folks will get a fresh blueberry muffin from Sweet Sixteenth Bakery!!

The Nashville Promise Neighborhood

The Nashville Promise Neighborhood is a new program in East Nashville that supports great neighborhoods, healthy families and successful students. A team of volunteers will conduct an anonymous door-to-door community survey starting in March 2012. We want to know what is important to you and hope you will participate if the survey team visits knocks on your door.

The 33rd Annual Celebration of Home Tour

The 33rd Annual Celebration of Home Tour is just around the corner! Nine families will open their homes to the neighborhood on December 3 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and December 4 from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM.

Lockeland Springs Park Clean-up Nov. 5

Come explore Lockeland Springs Park!!!

The LSNA is sponsoring a clean-up of the now officially named Lockeland Springs Park on November 5 from 8am to noon. We’ll provide trash bags and gloves. Sturdy waterproof boots and long-sleeved shirts are highly recommended. All volunteers should meet in front of Lockeland Design School. We will be entering the park from Woodland Street.

General Neighborhood Meeting this Thursday, Aug 18

Get out and meet your neighbors this Thursday night, August 17th at 6:30pm, at the East Branch Library (bottom floor) for our general neighborhood meeting.

We have a great lineup of speakers!

Dr. Sharon Matthews, Academy Coach at Stratford High School, will talk about the new STEM Magnet Program that will begin in the fall.

Also on the agenda is Robin VeenstraVanderWeele, from the Martha O’Bryan Center, who will talk about Promise Neighborhoods, a new initiative in Nashville that is supported by the Mayor, Metro Nashville Public Schools, and is lead by the Martha O’Bryan Center.

It should be a very informative meeting with a distinctly education-focused agenda.
